Rewards for overcomers!
The book of Revelation promises rewards for those who overcome. Each of the letters to the churches mentions a different reward or rewards.
We can read through these quickly, but studying the promises yields some added benefit:
- A deeper understanding of what it means to be an overcomer
- The realization that we don't need to wait for Heaven to begin to reap our reward
- A small glimpse into the glory in store for us when we do reach Heaven
The New Name on the White Stone
This is where the inspiration for this ministry began. Part of the promise to the church in Pergamos reads as follows:
"And I will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it." (Rev. 2:17 KJV)
A question that may come to your mind is, "What is the point of a name that nobody knows?" Here are some brief thoughts on the new name and the white stone:
A name isn't always just the "handle" that people use to address us. It can also be a descriptive term - one that defines not just who we are, but what we are. There are a number of people in the Bible who were given new names, often signifying a significant change that had taken place in their lives. A secret name can also be an expression of love between a husband and wife. Our new name may be an example of that.
Studying the idea of a white stone brings up reports of a time when small stones were used as ballots. A black stone meant guilty, and a white stone meant innocent. Stones were also used as admission tickets, as well.
